Ending the drug war would save billions, and empty a lot of jail cells. The whole apparatus of drug law enforcement, the cushy jobs and pensions, would go out the window. Not likely to happen though, as the entrenched bureaucracy will fight it tooth and nail.

They would, but that''s not why it won't happen. It won't happen because the war on drugs is a convenient excuse for controlling people, especially minorities and the poor, who have a greater proportion of drug users.
