FILM PROJECTS 2008/9:
- Building A Green Tomorrow
Elio Di Iorio, an environmentalist and former city councilor, is now a budding real estate developer. He endeavors to create a residential development above and beyond existing environmental standards. Students will document the entire process, from initial design to final conception.
- The Day That Changed The World: How Trade With China is Destroying Our Planet
On February 27, 1972, U.S. President Richard Nixon and Chairman Mao signed the Shanghai Communiqué, opening trade relations between the United States and China. 36 years later on, almost all products available for purchase in North America are made in China. What have been the environmental consequences since the deal?
- Are We Too Stupid To Save Ourselves?
Winston Churchill once said, "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter." But why does it seem that the average citizen is stupid and uninformed? Is it because our politicians will drop to the lowest common denominator to get themselves elected, and in the process lower the level of debate and discourse over important issues? Maybe it’s because journalists fail to challenge claims, check facts and are uninformed themselves? It could be our education system, which fails to teach us about certain subjects that we use everyday, or that affect us on a daily basis. We beg to ask, are we as a society basically ignorant and when faced with critical, time-sensitive issues like climate change, is the human race capable of saving itself?
