This may be a purely consumerist digression, but I'm thinking of switching to VOIP, and would like to hear any experiences other folks might have had.

The main providers right now seem to be Vonage, Shaw, and Primus. I'm leaning toward Primus only because I'm not forced to get an unlimited long distance (which I don't use enough of) package and can get sub-$20/mo telephone service. But is the quality of service decent? Will Primus even be around much longer (I hear they have been losing money for years)? Are there other providers (excluding Skype) that can do better? Are there any ethical/social considerations associated with using any of these providers? What do folks think?
