I think Vattimo is one of the most important living philosophers. Rare among those who come out of the Heideggerean tradition, he largely avoids the undertow towards racism and exclusion which Heidegger exemplified in his life.

He will be lecturing on "The Roots of Europe and the Philosophical Myth of Unity" at Carr Hall, U. of Toronto, 100 St. Joseph Street at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30.

While I feel more in agreement with people like Habermas, Vattimo has a tremendous amount to teach anyone with an open mind.
