CANADA'S MILITARY SPENDING IS MORE NOW THAN DURING THE COLD WAR. IN 2007-2008 OUR TAX DOLLARS WILL GO TOWARDS CLOSE TO $19 BILLION AND IS CLIMBING. WE WERE IN 16TH POSITION IN SPENDING NOW 13TH AND AT THIS RATE WE SHOULD BE IN 6 TH PLACE BY NATO STANDARDS. FOR SUCH A SMALL COUNTRY IN POPULATION, WE ARE PAYING THE PRICE NOT ONLY IN DOLLARS BUT IN LIVES. AS OF THIS DATE WE LOST 71 BRAVE SOLDIERS. THEY ARE PART OF THE COSTS IN THIS WAR.

UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THE REBUILDING OF AFGHANISTAN IS NOT WHAT WE ARE TOLD. I ENCOURAGE ALL CANADIANS TO FOLLOW THE MONEY. FOLLOW THE MONEY, ASK QUESTIONS AT CIDA AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND SEE THE SPIN.

HARPER IS MISUSING OUR TAX DOLLARS, THERE IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY. WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING.

MILITARY CONTRACTS IN CANADA SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. FOLLOW THE MONEY. ASK QUESTIONS TO YOUR ELECTED MEMBER. IF YOUR RIDING IS MONCTON-RIVERVIEW-DIEPPE, DON'T BOTHER, BRIAN MURPYY IS INVISIBLE. I TRIED TO GET HELP FROM HIM AND ON 19 DECEMBER 2006, TRYING TO FOLLOW THE MONEY, HIS ANSWER TO ME IF THERE WERE 350 ASKING THEN MAYBE. I LATER WROTE TO DION TO LET HIM KNOW THAT MURPHY IS NOT REPRESENTING ME. I THEN TOLD DION I WOULD WRITE DIRECT TO HIM. NOT TOO MUCH LATER,I GET A E MAIL FROM INVISIBLE BRIAN MURPHY, WHICH I RESPONDED BY COMMENTING ON CBC MARITIME NOON. SO LETS ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR MILITARY SPENDING AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND CIDA. FOLLOW THE MONEY. (JOE BONNEVIE, MONCTON NB, [email protected])

All joking aside, I think a good point is being made here that I don't think gets addressed enough.

Much is made of how our armed forces suffered into the Liberals; I was a big fan of their benign neglect approach because we don't really need a military. Except for that once-trendy peacekeeping of course.

But Canada's resurgent militarism is not an isolated phenomenon. Our southern neighbour is without peer in the war-making department but we also note Russia, China, India, Japan, Germany are pumping their military budgets, and that's just off the top of my head, I've no idea what other data is out there...

So what's with that? Are we girding for a fresh round of resource wars? Does it really cost all those billions to defend our once-frozen north?

And we see the strutting of this Hillier chappie and like, suddenly, it's ok to be military again? Why can't we nip this one in the bud, it's already absorbed any national daycare program, decent minimum wage laws and whatever else that money should have been spent on. Instead of siphoned off to a pack of Iraq-fattened profiteers.

Nobody else picking up on this?

Me too.

I wonder if we are being conditioned for a major world war. The profiteers are certainly pushing every provocation they can.

I stand by my assertion that Canada should have at least four Dreadnoughts.

They are at least as useful as used Leopard tanks, but waaaaayyy more freakin' cool. Besides, you can use them to protect the Arctic.
