All joking aside, I think a good point is being made here that I don't think gets addressed enough.Much is made of how our armed forces suffered into the Liberals; I was a big fan of their benign neglect approach because we don't really need a military. Except for that once-trendy peacekeeping of course.
But Canada's resurgent militarism is not an isolated phenomenon. Our southern neighbour is without peer in the war-making department but we also note Russia, China, India, Japan, Germany are pumping their military budgets, and that's just off the top of my head, I've no idea what other data is out there...
So what's with that? Are we girding for a fresh round of resource wars? Does it really cost all those billions to defend our once-frozen north?
And we see the strutting of this Hillier chappie and like, suddenly, it's ok to be military again? Why can't we nip this one in the bud, it's already absorbed any national daycare program, decent minimum wage laws and whatever else that money should have been spent on. Instead of siphoned off to a pack of Iraq-fattened profiteers.
Nobody else picking up on this?
