Los Angeles -- Sen. Chuck Hagel, an influential moderate Republican from Nebraska, sharply criticized the Bush administration in an interview here Tuesday, saying that the war in Iraq appears to have hurt America in its battle against terrorism.

Hagel, a politician sometimes mentioned as a future presidential contender, also said the United States is going to have to consider restarting the draft to maintain its many military commitments abroad.

In a sharp critique of the leader of his own party, Hagel said he believes the occupation of Iraq by the American military was poorly planned and has spread terrorist cells more widely around the world.

I'm betting Hagel hasn't paid his PNAC dues lately. I hope that the American people wake up for this next election and send Bush back to Texas. It seems to be happening, but it's so slow.

He made his remarks in LA. I wonder if he'll repeat them in Nebraska.

I know it sounds like Bush is in trouble, but I won't get my hopes up until the fundamentalist religious types start dumping on him en masse. When Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and the like badmouth Bush as agressively as they promoted his war, then I'll believe that Bush has troubles.

I think that Bush is gradullay being revealed as a dunce that is being used as a figurehead for certain powerful factions that have fought with other factions for control of America for decades if not centuries. the scales are tipping against him as the pendulum swings. The Mike Moore movie " ferhenheit 9/11" is going to do its hare of damage and perhaps move some undecided votes. it will not affect the faithful as they will refsue to see the movie. Bush certainly needs the religious right to retain the post, but it is doubtful they will turn against him. he must be defeated in spite of the religious support.
most american christians are not the fundamental type and do not form blocks based upon religion as it has been held separate for so long. the idea to incldue religion in politics is a growing menace and Bush panders to it by giving "faith-based' organizations government money in violation of the spirit of the constitution. not because he is ignorant but because he is evil.
He pretends to be a christian to court the votes he needs to put him over but the religious right alone cannot elect him. he needs conservative democrats and his so-called "War" id not working any longer to drive people with a frenzy of patriotism to vote for his programs. his ideas are wrong and it will take some time but he will fail. Americans are basically foolish and ignorant and short-sighted but they are not totally stupid( yet) They have to wake up and start thinking about such matters and forget their
tv sets long enought to care. this will happen when they lose jobs or loved-ones lives. eventually the bush program will cut into their consciousness and they will be personally impacted and start to look around and complain. he can only go so far until his goals are evident and he will be shut down but it will get worse befroe it gets better. The sooner the worse gets here the better for us all here in america. Only then can he be defeated and the long slow march to repair the republican damge begins. ( again)
