Prof Neil Boyd of the SFU ciminology department has written a book called Big Sister: How extreme feminism has betrayed the fight for sexual equality. Boyd states that he is a feminist and that “The point of this book is not to slam feminism or gender equality, but to consider the influence of the typically self-described radical feminist.” In the book, Boyd identifies Big Sister as “the cadre of radical extremists who are spouting bogus science and silencing their critics with a combination of illogical mantras and vicious tirades.”
Obviously this could be a controversial title and a review in MacLeans in July said as much when the book came out:
MACLEANS REVIEW OF BIG SISTER
Still, when I looked back over the Feminism thread I couldn't find any discussion of this book in July or August. I am wondering if a book such as this, which is critical of some aspects of feminism, is therefore considered off-limits for discussion in the Babble feminism thread.
I haven't read this book myself, but it came to my attention yesterday morning when Michael Enright interviewed Boyd on the CBC AM Sunday morning show. So I wondered if there had been a discussion of it on babble, and apperently there was not.
