Humanities???
We just found the 3rd Kitten thrown out this week. We have been feeding a group of Feral Cats for years now. This week alone we have found 3 "throw away cats" This little female is at most 8 weeks old, and is a few oz in weight, with only skin and bones, held together with a wisp of breath, and you can talk of Humanities???

Give me a break.

Mazie, that is not the meaning of "humanities" in the plural in English. Humanities refers to the study of the "literature, philosophy, history and oratory of the classical world", as opposed to "divinities". In modern terms it refers to the (liberal) arts as opposed to science and technology.

Ideally, study of the humanities should make us more sensitive to humans and other living beings, but there were plenty of Nazis and other cruel people who were thoroughly cultivated. One can be a student of the humanities and, alas, be far from humane.

And on that note, I will close this thread. I will move it if the topic appears to warrant further discussion (there are several threads already extant on babble which hold discussions on maltreatment of animals).
