If you want to see what a medieval trebuchet really worked like you can build this from scratch. Full scale versions can do a serious job on stone walls.

That is so f**king weird. For the last week me and a bunch of my college science friends have been discussing building a very destruction-capable trebuchet for various, um, uses.

Thank you. Bwahahahaha! HA!

OMG COOL! I am going to build one too! Although I don't have any seiges planned right now, I've always wanted to try.

I once saw an episode of Junkyard Wars where teams built seige engines. One side built a trebuchet, the other side built a mangonel. The mangonel team won the challenge, I recall, as the trebuchet proved quite a challenge to fine-tune. Getting the angle on the release pin correct was the obstacle, as I recall. Some of the watermelons went straight skyward, others were slammed straight into the ground...

I also remember an episode of the old TV show Northern Exposure where the village eccentric (or one of them) decides to build a trebuchet... for the purpose of flinging a cow. Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately, for barbeque enthusiasts and music fans) he eventually relents and flings a grand piano instead.

Trebuchets! You people make this young and aspiring Medievalist weep tears of joy.

Although Roman style catapults are easier to construct if you're making them for destructive purposes (WCG)

Remember, I'm also that nerd in your high school that would lecture you on the virtues of Latin and the glory of Rome.

Jesus man! We're not trying to lay siege to the Canadian Parliment. Just my CPC MP's riding office.

Yep, Hitler fancied himself a Roman battle line tactician. And he had his own Praetorian guard and all. His siege machines annihilated Stalingrad and Leningrad but lost the war in the end.

I can appreciate the engineering and construction feats of the Romans but not the fascist attitudes toward trade unionism. I wonder if the Shriners sold tickets to circus maximus then?.

A couple more. Flinging 250-lb stone balls. Ouch.
