More China stuff:
quote:
In short, ever since the Enlightenment, Confucius has been widely regarded in the West as a Chinese personification of humane, tolerant, and universal ethical principles. In his Age of Reason, Thomas Paine listed Confucius with Jesus and the Greek philosophers as the world's great moral teachers. A figure of Confucius in flowing sleeves joins Moses, Hammurabi, and Solon among the lawgivers in the marble frieze encircling the Supreme Court's hearing room in Washington, D.C.

But what if this familiar image is completely untrue?

I really appreciate the effort.
In this case, though, myth wouldn't be inappropriate. One of these days, we'll figure out the difference.

Teehee: I was unsure of my title, as I wasn't sure if you'd take offence to it, or what. But if I just said. "Another myth shattered", I wasn't sure if I'd be pounced upon, either (and seeing as how, as I tried ever so cryptically to explain before, I don't see much of a difference).

Politics aside… teehee… as long as whatever I wrote is cool. You must realize I go for jokes, more than anything else.

Hey, i'm not as fierce as all that!
Myths are stories about the creation - with gods, daemons, spirits, angels, monsters and forces of nature in it. They are the earliest stories of religions.
Legends are about heroes, kings and so forth, and they're the earliest stories of nations.
Fairy tales are legends cut down to fit children and simpletons, and usually carry a moral.

If it's about modern politics, it's a lie. If it's about shampoo, it's advertising.
If it's about an ancient sage or law-giver or founder of a religion, it's somewhere on the legend-myth frontier.
