"We support the Conservative party, up and down the line. But there are a lot of people on our board that have strong feelings and strong support for Mr. Casey as our candidate, so we are truly at an impasse," said riding association president Scott Armstrong.

"Wow, that's an impressive expression of loyalty, principles and complexity. Oh, and here's the door!" said the Conservative Party of Canada.

Conservatives suspend defiant N.S. riding leaders

Has Casey made any definitive statement on whether he will run for re-election? I would think he stands a decent chance of pulling a Nunziata (or if you prefer, a Cadman) and getting elected as an independent.

I do believe Mr. Casey wlll be re-elected no mattr how he runs - independent most likely though even local Tories say "Oh well, at least he'll vote with "Us" - I would not bet on that if I wdere them... Once any politician sees a party in the way Bill Casey has seen this one, her or his perspectice changes immensely!

From what I understand the Conservatives in the riding are splitting along the old PC and Reform/Canadian Alliance lines. The Conservatives have been very reluctant to say who is on the search committee but the two named members have come from the latter camp.

It's very much the former PROGRESSIVE Conservatives (and as I recall it was Bran Mulroney who used to like to say in certain places - likely not in the west) that he was "a Progressive Conservative with the emphasis on the adjective rather than the noun" who support Mr. Casey and in actual fact, constitute the vast majority of the riding.

In numerous ridings across the Maritimes, the Alliance take over gave them coffers full of money - all raised by Red Tories and others who do not nor ever did support the values espoused by the current Masters of the party now legally termed Conservative. So, if one party wants their money back because a politician crossed the floor, what does one do in this case? Doesn't Mr. Casey get the money - which HIS official agent (under the erections Act, it is the candidate who appoints the Official Agent during an election)?

It's a rhetorical question - I wold not hold my breath waiting were I Mr. Casey. Look at what happened to Mr. Orchard who brought kn oodles of money to the former Tory party and he had to go to court. Of course now he is a Liberal but that's another sad saga...

I do not want to digress and if anyone wants to take the subject elsewhere, please do but why does Mr. Orchard harbour so much antipathy toward the NDP?

Janey, , I'm not sure if I understand what your saying. PROGRESSIVE conservative or not, and I don't see Mr Casey as being either fiscally conservative or socially progressive, do you see the majority of voters in Colchester / Cumberland to be PROGRESSIVE conservative? I see them as being filled with hate ( at least half the voting public).
