"Police believe that criminal specialists are planning detailed robberies and then selling the scenarios as package solutions to ambitious but less experienced thieves. The masterminds likely receive cash and a cut of the final take."

Simply brilliant.

Ya, and the CMA says that if we adopted the American model of for-profit health care, there would be an extra 2000 Canadians die each year. American-style capitalism breeds child poverty and unnecessarily high infant mortality rates.

Video-game coming out in time for Christmas. Then, for $60+tax, it will be legal.

Is everyone here a socialist? Canadian healthcare has been letting us down, in case anyone failed to notice! I don't know where you all live, but where I live you can expect to wait and wait and wait and wait for anything. There are communities with no doctors. The only two other countries in the world with as stringent public healthcare regulations are Cuba and N. Korea. Are these the countries, we are attempting to emulate?
Increasingly privatized universities here are making the doctor/nurse shortage worse when accompanied with a completely government-controlled health care system. Of course our grads are going to go south to get decent pay. Until we allow some privatization (which is already here, if any of you plan on visiting Quebec or certain Native reserves in the future), the shortages will only get worse.

Ujal Dosanjh is the worst possible person for the job of fixing healthcare. We will end up with another lost 9 billion, sucked into the bureaucratic hole and no improvements in services. I'm only 23 and I hope that we wise up as a country, and realize that privatize isn't a dirty word!

Add up how much you spend on PST and GST per year compared to how much the typical American spends on health insurance and you'll quickly realize that you're getting fleeced!

Funny you should think this, on the very day that Paul Krugman of the New York Times concludes that, "by any measure", including cost, Canadian health care beats the American system easily.

quote:
The fact is that the mainly private U.S. health-care system spends far more than the mainly public health care systems of other advanced countries, but gets worse results.

In 2001, the U.S. spent $4,887 on health care per capita, compared with $2,792 in Canada and $2,561 in France. Yet the U.S. does worse than either country by any measure of health care success you care to name — life expectancy, infant mortality, whatever.

The article also points out that the Conference Board of Canada thinks the present system provides benefits for Canada's competitiveness.

They are not socialists either.

perhaps Dagny you'd like to start a new thread on how us evil socialists are all wrong about healthcare ... since i fail to see what in the world your post has to do with "designer crimes".

the "designer crimes" idea is not novel: if you have a criminal team of 3 people and need a specialist in, say, explosives knowledge, you search out an independent contractor in the labour market who suits your needs. the idea is also a criminal counterpart to al qaeda's tactics ... various proposals would come into evildoer HQ in afghanistan, and the more promising ones would receive funding/safehouses/agents, and others would get instructions on the mail-order CD-ROM take-home version sent to them. of course, they didn't have a situation where low-level islamic fundamentalists were paying osama to give them advice.

What's been done to the Canadian health-care system lately is certainly a crime, but is it a 'designer crime'? Well, it was done deliberately - aka, by design. So, i guess...
