Is it buying habits or marketing habits?

Meaning, I'd be more likely to buy a "right wing" book if I didn't suspect that it's the usual pack of lies. And I suspect my theoretical evil twin mirror image on the right believes the same of the left.

To get your mug on T.V. today, or as an author or pundit you can't behave in a reasonable fashion, you have to pull out all the rhetorical stops, stoop to the ad-hominem and decapitate your straw men as fast as you can set them up.

Just kidding.

Actually, what happens is that a lot of books these days use certain "code words" that are designed to attract a certain audience - whether the code words are used intentionally or not I don't know - and so as a result you really can judge a book by its cover these days.

However, even the best of the best can be snookered and I vividly remember reading a book years ago at the library which was allegedly about manipulation of the media and it quickly segued into a hysterical rant against Gorbachev and Communism and the USSR in general. Allegedly, Gorbachev "knew" the Western media so well as to be able to run "slickly designed personal advertising campaigns" (meaning: his general affability and willingness to abandon Soviet dogma at times).

That's when I put the book down and muttered that I was appalled at the hysterical right-wing junk in the book.

Other books I've picked up have turned out to be surprisingly right-wing in outlook; one of them is a Star Trek novel, titled "Dreadnought!" The main character is given a tidy little speech about the horrors of government intervention, and this is used as the basis on which to fight an admiral with ambitions to rule the galaxy using far superior firepower to anything the Klingons or Romulans had.

Most of them tend to be apolitical or even semi-socialist in outlook, however.
