The issue I'm having is that most of my posts are not showing up via the "Search" function, and when I go to my "Most Recent Posts" page, the posts that show up are not my 50 most recent posts.

I have 1200 posts, including this one. My "most Recent Posts" is supposed to show my 50 most recent posts. Yet only 29 posts are showing up on this page. A few of them are recent, and the rest of them span the 3 1/2 years back to March 2005, when I created my account.

When I perform a search for my posts using the "Search" function, the only results I get are the 29 posts that show up on my "Most Recent Posts" page.

Has anyone else been had this problem of late?

Did you try Google? If not, try using this in Google's search entry field, window or whatever you want to call it:

"posted by Left Turn" 2008 OR 2007 OR 2006 OR 2005 site:rabble.ca

Not using any of those years at all will give you something a little over 40 results. Searching for "2008" "posted by Left Turn" narrows it down to about ~22 hits. Google's hit counter seems to be off.

There's a problem with that "HNIC Theme" thread in "Culture." Even though I posted a reply in the thread, I can't read past the middle of one of Mycroft's posts, which is the fourth one in.

A: Our search function is a piece o' crap, and pretty much always has been. I'd follow Fidels advice on that one. Fortunately we won't have to put up with it for much longer.

B: Regarding the recent post lists, a couple of months ago, our aged, creaky, and unstable software gave a huge belch or something, and a whole bunch of posts, years worth in some cases, disappeared from that list. They're still there if you go to the threads in question, but they're just not available to locate through the usual means. For some bizarre reason this did not seem to affect everyone equally.

C: Good God yeah, that thread's a mess. Looks like it's corrupted somehow. Not sure what's going on. We do have a team of tech gremlins working all over the system preparing for the upcoming changeover, so maybe that has something to do with it. Beats me.

ETA: I think someone may have posted an incompatible link or something.

Actually, the exact phrase "posted by Left Turn" does not normally appear on threads where Left Turn has posted, unless someone has quoted him in another post.

Better to use an exact phrase like "Babbler # 8662".

I've found that to be the case only if I perform a search using the "Search By Registered rabble rouser Number" filter. If I search by words only, and leave the Number box blank, the babble search engine seems to be its usual (mediocre) self.

I think the "huge belch" that oldgoat refers to involved a decoupling of the "babbler number" from some threads, so that the babbler number is invisible to the "View Recent Posts" function and the "Search" engine.
