An interesting news item:

meat

I'm surprised the animal rights lobby isn't pushing this.

I believe The Sniffer chats about test tube meat on a podcast, if you're curious.

I'm not all that appetized by the sound of it all, but still, if it would shut PETA's cryhole once and for all, I'm on board.

"I don't find it hard to believe that in vitro meat can be produced that tastes like hamburger or chicken nuggets," said Jason Matheny, one of the founders of Vive Research, a U.S. form working on growing meat for the global market. Most of the flavour in burgers and nuggets now sold in grocery stores or restaurants comes from seasoning or filler, he said .

I don't find it hard to believe, either, since the so-called flavour of these meat products is pretty tasteless. The texture is icky, too.

I dunno. I'm not a big fan of animal slaughter as we practice it, but growing meat like you would a plant seems to me to be pointless. You could just eat soya or spiced lentils and peanut butter, supplement your diet with iron and vitamin B, and you'd have a better overall taste experience.

I still think that there are too many people who eat too much meat and too many who don't get enough.

He and his colleagues grew mouse meat in their lab because the stem cells they could turn into muscle fibres were easily available.

Just when you thought cats couldn't get any lazier.
