This is a continuation of the discussion that was previously in the "Bowling for Columbine" thread.
I searched Usenet for some articles by gun owners who opposed the NRA's take-no-prisoner's tactics and came up with this article. The author states that the gun industry is better served than hunters when he says:

That article makes the interesting point that one of the NRA Board of Directors is the publisher of Soldier of Fortune magazine.
I would like to see a complete list, as they do successfully pose as your basic huntin' fellahs, not as gun pushers.
