Kluane M.L.A Gary McRobb quit/was fired from the party a few days ago and joined the Liberals. Mayo-Tatchun M.L.A Eric Fairclough was also tossed out of the party and may also join the Liberals.

Both of them were tossed after having discussions with the Territorial Liberal Party regarding joining that party.

Both M.L.As sighted the 'hard' left direction N.D.P leader Todd Hardy has moved the party as their reason for wanting out.

The N.D.P and the Liberals now each have 3 M.L.As. Should Eric Fairclough join the Liberals (a good possibility) presumably they would become the official opposition.

... but neither of them dated ol' Potato-Head Pete, and left him standing in a muddy field with only his neighbour's dawg for company...

Now DID they?!

Around town it is now widely accepted that McRobb and Fairclough hoodwinked party leady Hardy. Rather than crossing the floor and setting themselves for critisism they got themselves chucked from caucas allowing them to deflect that type of attack.

McRobb linky

and Fairclough linky.

What is it about Hardy that they perceive as "hard left"?

Hardy is a pretty traditional NDPer, he is also an honest and nice guy, he even teaches my 4 year old karate.

The Yukon has always been a a weird mix. Since the gold rush (and even before) the economy has been based on resource extraction, in the past few decades as land claims have been negotiated that economy has been pretty much on hold. Now with most settlements done industry (oil) is breathing down our neck to develop, this has the right (Yukon Party) frothing at the mouth, they can't fathom the idea of having to prop people up who need EI, social assistance etc. Funny thing though YP just tabled a $790 million budget, almost $600 million came from the Feds as a transfer payment.
