I am interested though in biographies of economists and recently finished one on John Maynard Keynes, if that's of any value. By the way, do we have a book review thread somewhere?

We do now.

I just read the Exorsist.

The movie was very, very close to it. A really quick read, entertaining, though I didn't find it scary.

I found Pet Cemetary scary, but this wasn't. Perhaps since the film had such an effect on me, the book seemed more mild.

Right now I'm reading "Hard Labor : the truth about having babies in America." It's enraging as usual. An interesting expose by a L&D nurse.

I'm also reading The Message of the Sphinx. Interesting to be sure. Talks about the water erosion, the theory that that head had been recarved, the idea that it's WAY older than the Great Pyramid, etc.

Recently read a novel called 'My Year of Meats' by Ruth L. Ozeki, published in 1998.
It's about the making of a Japanese tv series in America - as a frame for other things. The book is entertaining, even amusing in a low key, but also hair-raising in what it has to say about the US beef industry. (She did a fair amount of research and lists sources.) really made me feel good about vegetarianism.

If you want to feel good about vegetarianism, read a book called Mad Cowboy by Howard Lyman and Glen Mercer. Lyman is a former cattle rancher who is now a vegan activist.
