So far this one is topping the ratings on the CBC site:

I don't see it myself. Sounds to me like someone's been spending too much time down on the farm.

code:

This one I kind of like.

Jebus. That first one is awful! Are people deliberately freeping the contest with the worst pick imaginable?

The other one is also a far cry from the theme they lost. What were they thinking, letting a private station get the HNIC theme song??

Both of those are hilarious! Not sure all the fans will accept the first one, though. The second is like The Ramones do Hockey Night.

Fun-nee stuff.

‘Canadian Gold' voted as new Hockey Night in Canada anthem

The arrangement is kind of 19th century male WASP if you ask me.

To me, it sounds like a march, but with a disco beat. Definitely something that could have been written 30 years ago.

BTW, I had to use Firefox to make this post, because something in the code for this page would not allow my default IE6 browser to display it completely.

ETA: I just noticed that even with Firefox there is a problem, and it seems to be caused by the code Mycroft posted in his last post above. The text portion of his post that follows the embedded video does not appear onscreen in either browser, nor does the usual thin red line with the "From...Registered..IP" information. My IE browser simply cuts off the page after the embedded video, but Firefox allows the rest of the page to be displayed, without the invisible portions described above.

Personally, I like the runner up one much better:

Way catchier, better tune. And more reminiscent of the style of the old theme.

I still can't believe they passed over this one:

I don't think "making love" and holding hands is really what's in most of the audience's minds when they're watching a hockey game.

But Lawrence Welk? He'd have had a song with the lyrics, "...bubbles in the ice..." embedded somewhere.

It's choking on an incomplete tag right at the end of the code:
quote:
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always
Firefox seems to handle this better than IE.

I just deleted the code from al-Q's post and that seems to have fixed the problem. Unfortunately, that means it also deleted his media player.

It's not entirely fixed.

The quotation in al-Qa'bong's post is from the immediately prior post of aka Mycroft, but those words don't display in Mycroft's post itself, on my computer, using either IE6 or Firefox.

The only reason I know it's there is that it shows up in the Reply window when I "quote" Mycroft's post.
