Jokes aside, I think I'm willing to see this tried, although the concluding line from the Cambridge researcher probably makes sense at this point:

quote:
If you put cells from one species into the egg of another, the egg may divide, but you could get a lot of genetic abnormality that won't lead to good quality stem cells."

People should know that these embryos would not survive - wouldn't be allowed to and wouldn't be able to, both, beyond a very short time.

My one concern is the puir wee rabbits they are going to harvest from. I hope they don't start looking for live ones - there is a lot of road-kill available in Scotland, more's the pity.

I would think that using as host eggs a species that produces eggs in abundance would have some value.

To get reliable results the eggs may have to be tested for proteins that a human cell, particularly the cells of the individual 'cloned', would not have.

Heterogenous DNA truly might become attached to the strands of human DNA, producing a result that might truly surprise us. we might encounter the first occurence of human-based human engineered recombinant evolution.

There have been cases where rats and mice have been specifically genetically engineered to "take" a human immune system for the purpose of testing certain drugs, but I think this far exceeds that process.
