The Newfoundland and Labrador PCs and Danny Williams are at record levels of public support according to a CRA poll (82% and 81% respectively).
The Liberals are at 12% and the NDP at 8%. The real news though is that Yvonne Jones/"whoever will be the next Liberal leader" scored a miserly 5%, probably the lowest in post-Confederation history, and Lorraine Michael is at 7%.
Slim pickins' for sure, and probably much more reflective of problems within the Liberal Party than a mass public preference for Michael over Jones... but is this the first time an NDP leader has been more popular than the Liberal leader in the province?

I'm kind of half-tempted to say, "who cares", while Danny Williams is registering 81% support and 90% approval, but if he goes down, SOMEONE is going to have to fill the vacuum.

Maybe. But I think the opposite. Danny's success has had the effect of nearly wiping out the Liberals - i.e. putting it on an equal footing with the NDP. If the NDP and Liberals, and their leaders, are roughly equal in the polls, then this just might be a critical moment for the NL NDP.
