On August 9th, 1943, in Germany, a Roman Catholic conscientious objector named Franz Jagerstatter was beheaded by the Third Reich.His story was detailed by Gordon Zahn in the 1960's. Least we forget . . .

Here are two of many links on Jäggerstätter (the actual German spelling, but not transcribed in most of the English links as Jaegerstaetter, as the umlauts usually are)...
