On a not wholly unrelated matter, I've been trying to assist an older gentleman to find his Stradivarius, stolen in WWII. To this point, all that's been achieved is a one-page website (done up, BTW, on the advice of Interpol) and numerous emails to worldwide newspapers, govts, even a lawyer or two, almost all of which have gone unanswered.

It's a very sad story and with the health of Mr. Kraus deteriorating, he's running out of time.

Over the years I've seen a number of theories, all of which seem to have fallen by the wayside.

On the question of materials I remember an article that commented that the wood he used was (may have been?) soaked at some time before he got it so there were unique funguses at work when the wood was dried and worked.

It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, comes of the study.

Maybe Audra will be able to tell us.
