You know, I hear pretty much all the time now the USA name calling other countries. Sure, there have been a few people in other countries (Germany and Canada) that have said a few nasty things about the US president, but personally I think the USA should stop trying to fight a verbal war too.

I was listening to the International Hour of programming (sunday around noon) and they had some guy in the American Government saying that France, Germany, and Belgium owe a lot to the Americans for saving them in WW2. They said that if it wasn't for the US France, Belgium and Germany would be Soviet Countries. And this may be right, but you know, there might not have been a USA if

(a) They did get a bit of luck during the Fight for independance(Britain withdrew after realizing it wasn't worth all the fighting they were doing) As well, France came in and Helped them in the Fighting later on during the war.

(b)They might still be the Confederates and who knows, could be a 2nd or 3rd world country if they were under the controls of the Confederates.

In gerneral, if it wasn't for the help of some of the European countries, the USA might not even be there to do any of the stuff they did later in history.

I just think that they shouldn't be acting like an ass to their allies and still expect the respect. I believe they have forgotten their past and how they actually came to power...

I think it's irrelevent anyways. France, Germany and Belgium should not 'owe' anything to the U.S. regardles.
It's disgusting that people would bring up who saved who's ass in World War Two as if it implies countries should make decisions as a favour to the U.S. and not based on say, logic, or popular consent within their borders.

If commentators in the U.S. bring up World War two as if it matters to France's stance on Iraq it implies they owe the U.S. something.
(or it can be used to bring up sterotypes of the cowardly or weak french)
It seemed like Chirac was using the same type of argument in condemning "new europe" for its stance on the war:
"When you are in the family, after all, you have more rights than when you are asking to join and knocking on the door."(for EU membership)
Americans shouldn't bring up world war two to shame others into joining the war and Chirac shouldnt use EU membership as a means to push it's point of view.web page
