Preston Manning seems to be taking a bit of a swipe here at Stephen Harper.

Little Westerners are more provincial in their outlook, inclined to build firewalls rather than bridges when they're frustrated or threatened.

The guy who loves that word refoooooooooorm goes to some effort to identify issues on which people in the West and the rest of Canada can find a commonality of interest, but I'm thinking he's looking up the wrong tree. Quebec nationalists don't seem much interested in finding allies elsewhere, especially not from the other side of the political spectrum. Ontario's interest in energy security relates mainly to electricity, and that's on the whole a local concern.

Given Ted Morton's piece in the Globe a couple of days ago, I took this essay from Manning as being, in one sense, aimed at one of Morton's target audiences--those Western Conservative voters angry at Ontario for not throwing out the Liberals. I'm not sure he meant it as a swipe at Harper.

If, in another sense, the target audience is Ontarians--and perhaps others--angry at the Liberals, but still not ready to throw them out in favour of Harper (remember the Globe's endorsement of the Liberals), Mannning's piece might be aimed at focusing the attention of those voters on what good could come to Ontario and other parts of the country--on energy, on health, etc.--from a decentralizing Conservative government. (Not like that nasty Lib-NDP coalition he mentions.)

I was a bit surprised Manning didn't explicitly mention the so-con issues that probably cost Harper some support in Ontario this time out. The closest he seemed to come to mentioning them was this:

quote:

Besides, the political expression of Western concerns and aspirations is making progress in numbers, in diversity, and in accommodating itself to the values and needs of other parts of the country.

Speaking of Westerners - What is Ted Byfield doing? Someone phoned the other night wanting to talk about something Ted is starting surely to be followed by a request for money.

I said not interested and hung up. But now I'm kind of curious what the old gyser is up to, and how they got my phone number.

I have seen the Alberta report. What a bunch of right wing tripe. I was thinking of reviewing it and then decided why give it any free publicity, however negative.

No I'm sure the telemarkets said something like, 'new" "chistian" -- and then that's when I cut him off.

Publisher - Ezra Levant.

And that's all we need to know about this particular publication.

Yes but are Ted and Link planning some political party based on Christian principles. I make it a habit not to talk to loons and telemarketers but now I wish I had.
