Well, here at Queen's they have an exclusive deal with Coke, who then promptly took out many of the $1.00 can machines, and replaced them with $2.00 bottle machines. Charming. We were not impressed in the Drama Department.

In retaliation, Pepsi has a couple of machines set up just on the boundaries of Queen's (on street corners).

Coke took over the UofA a couple of years ago. It's a big sham. There was supposed to be a whole bunch of tuition money donated for students who needed it, but as far as I know, nobody ever saw it, and now Coke and its other drinks are all that you can get on campus.

They even drove out the Taco Time (my favourite place for a veggie burrito!!) because they have some kinda contract with Pepsi (I think all Taco Times serv Pepsi products only).

Lots of us were mad as hell about it.

When my eldest was still in elementary school, the principal of the school allowed sales reps from some "scholastic" company to go into classrooms and tell children that they would get a "prize" if their parents bought their shit. There was some material incentive for the school involved as well.

I was furious that my child was being used and manipulated, and wrote an angry letter to the principal, who claimed ignorance of the sales reps' activities in classrooms. Astonishing that the moron would allow people into classrooms without knowing what they were going to do (I doubt this was the case - the principal was ass-covering ineffectively...if you're going to lie to cover your butt, make sure it's a lie that doesn't make you look like an irresponsible idiot).

Anyway, the payola deal with the company was squashed (I'm pretty sure some other parents voiced the same concerns). The process of commoditizing children makes me ill.

Edited: for bad spelling and grammar
