I just was on the jdl canada web site and i came across some funny pictures of them protesting, it reminded me of the comedy "Almost Hero's" when the pirate asked the two explorers who he brought with them and it was a bunch of elderly natives.

is that Meir Weinstein putting on his mean face? was it for the picture or does he always look mean?

Oddly, the JDL decided to picket Norman Finkelstein with placards that were aimed not at him but Hamas. Weinstein also liked to refer to the meeting as a "Hamas meeting". Poor guy - obviously confused.

Another interesting fact, the JDL claims that 40 people were at the picket when their own pictures indicate the number was more like a dozen.

as it happened i was downtown that evening at the rom. my wife and i passed by this demonstration and while there certainly were not large numbers of demonstrators there were far more than a dozen....maybe 25 or so. i don't know to much about the jdl but the demonstration seemed peaceful.

I was there just before the Finkelstein event started and I didn't see more than a dozen protesters. You'd think if they had the 40 they claimed they would have posted pictures of the throng on their website instead of the measly troupe of a dozen or so.

Well, I was going to close this thread for the reasons mentioned above, but now it suddenly seems to be going in interesting directions.

Rather than the still photo that Eric's link directed us to, I thought the first post might have referred to the interview within the first link. That is what I attempted to provide a link to - but unintentionally duplicated the first link.

As far as "pointlessness" of the thread is concerned, just how many threads is it desired to close down?

I have no particular love for this, but unless there are compelling reasons, to lock this short thread, or any other, I say let it/them sit.

Better to visit the basement and resuscitate an orphan - or introduce your own topic.

Jacku says there were 25 demonstraters and akaMycroft claims a dozen.

Now if it were me making the claim I would be accused of having an agenda and summarily dismissed.

I suppose its quite possible that Jaku and akaMycroft were at the demo at different times and saw different numbers.

Either way as much as I totally disagree with the aims and position of the jdl, like acjc and other groups from the extremes, it has the right to peacefully protest. While I would never attend a jdl action or support it in any way, I can understand why many Jews would loath Finkelstein. It's just too bad it had to be the jdl that expressed this loathing.

Or Jaku could have seen people in front of OISE going in to see Finkelstein among the protesters or, as they were marching around in a circle, they may have seemed to have greater numbers than they did.

In any case, the photographic evidence so kindly provided by the JDL shows a dozen protesters at most. I think, had the JDL had a better turnout, they would have made sure to take a picture and put it on their site. Note that since (in the top and bottom photographs, at least) you can see the picket line turning at both ends these are not pictures of part of the line but the entire line.

hehe, lucky for the jewish defence league their protests will always be peaceful.

unless these old timers have some pop-eye spinach in their blood, a peaceful protest goes in their favor.

did they pick an empty street to do their protest on or did they all boycott the street because they were afraid of the jdl!
