quote: Hadi Safdari, an Iranian convicted of blackmailing his gay partners with videotapes of their sex acts, was put to death by hanging this weekend. News 24 reports that the death sentence appears "to have been handed down for rape, as the blackmail was deemed to have removed any element of consent." We think there's good reason it is unclear. Iran's Islamic regime does impose the death penalty for consensual sodomy if there are repeated "offenses" and the accused is found to be an adult of "sound mind." Safadari had previously served 18 months in prison for murdering his wife, which obviously wasn't death penalty noteworthy. Safdari's accomplice, identified only as M Sh, was sentenced to lashes and imprisonment.

If sodomy is punishable by death , what will happen to the partners that were blackmailed? Despicable as this is , the light sentence for disposing of an unwanted wife when divorce is so easy for men in Islamic countries is just as terrifying . The granting of refugee status for women and gays living in these countries should be included in our immigration policy.
