On this thread, majorvictory noted this news article which is very worrisome in its implications, since it is reminiscent of the Crusades as well as many European wars where the opposing sides both believed God was with them.
Religion, as I have caustically noted, tends to stop a working mind unbelievably well. But it also has the unfortunate effect of sharpening divisions and de-emphasizing the similarities humans have with each other (which is opposite to the teachings of the religious figures in the holy texts, which often emphasize the unity, not the divisions, of humanity).
This does not leave me hopeful that the Iraq conflict (Mission not accomplished, Mr. President) will be resolved with methods other than armed force.
