"Ruling leaves bitter taste"

The mother of a Filipino boy reprimanded at school over his eating habits said she is dismayed that the Quebec Human Rights Commission rejected her claim that the school discriminated against her child.

The commission ruling is "racially insensitive toward me and my family," Maria Gallardo said yesterday during a news conference at the Van Horne Ave. offices of the Philippine Association of Montreal and Suburbs.

Gallardo said she hopes to contest the ruling before the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal and win a public apology, as well as moral damages from school authorities ...
