Check out her web site at and read the "journal." Libby is always "wealthy socialist Libby Davies" and the vitriol! And bizarre writing like I've never seen in Canadian politics including to a reference to: "...Davies pledged to scattered applause from the semi-comatose lunch-time crowd." This woman is clearly nuts, as her homophobic rant last week makes clear. I thought she was just another scumbag for her party crossing but thank god(!) she's not with us any longer. Boy the Liberals really scraped the bottom of the barrell for NDP leavings...

Just a little light reading on my lunch break ...(Haggard's site is less scathing but no less frustrating including an endorsement from short lived cabinet Minister Ed John who I once had such respect for...)

I think she fancies Libby. That's the only explanation.

OMG, nuts goes only halfway to describing her!

The "press release" you quote from Charles looks like it belongs in Frank Magazine, not a Liberal website. Chan has made up quotes and attributed them to Libby!!!! I guess it's supposed to be "funny" but, man, anyone reading this will be leaughing a Chan, not Libby:

“Paul Martin balanced the budget on the backs of the poor. To ensure that everyone pays their fair share we propose the following : because they only serve the needs of the richest Canadians, we intend to impose a 50% surtax on all jewellery stores and steamship lines.”

“At the same time, to better meet the needs of current and former members of our caucus, we will provide substantial tax relief for defense lawyers, psychologists and anyone having an Oprah moment.” Davies told a poorly-attended rally at the office of the Special Prosecutor appointed to investigate just exactly how sticky Svend Robinson’s fingers really are.

Davies and her party remain confident that the nation will support an economic policy inspired by what she called “the remarkable success of my close personal friend of many years”, disgraced ex-Premier Glen Clark, when he was BC’s Minister of Finance. “The NDP will do for Canada what we did for BC”, Davies pledged to scattered applause from the semi-comatose lunch-time crowd.

A "wealthy socialist" getting only "scattered applause" from a "semi-comatose" crowd? A "disgraced" Premier? A "poorly attended" rally?

Sounds like OCAP-style hyperbole to me. All that's missing is a sputtering middle manager and someone being "humiliated" publicly.

Well personally people who endorse others don't really affect me. It's their choice I suppose their in favour of "the person" but it's really un-important I'll vote for whomever I think will do the best job.

Now regarding Shirley Chan jeesh. She sounded like a normal person before this campaign but first the defection then the rant and now this. The woman is insane. *Why those wealthy socialists -- Why I ought to* *fist waiving* *foaming at the mouth* *grrrrr* -- Is that what she's going to stoop to soon?

The stress of the campaign must have gotten to this woman. She's cracked under the strain. That's the only explanation I can think of for how something like this could be presented in public.

BTW how can these so-called "progressive Liberals" in B.C. get away with attacking the NDP regarding any propping up of a Conservative government while Keith Martin lurks within their ranks?

Chan was convinced by the Liberals to run in Van East as there were no Liberals willing to take a run at Davies. It's not a surprise that she's pulling things out of the air.

I was in Chinatown last weekend and saw only a handful of signs supporting her. For Chan's candidacy to have any chance, there needed to be a lot more visible support there, given that Mount Pleasant and Commercial drive are wall-to-wall NDP orange. A lot of people are taken aback by the "From Van East - For Van East" slogan, given that Chan has spent most of her life in Richmond and currently resides in Kitsilano.

Chan makes a point of claiming to be "connected to the community and my family" which appears to be code to about a third of Van East residents for "vote for me because I'm Chinese". Jenny Kwan (our NDP MLA) could easily make the same claim, but has the misfortune of the right-wing Chinatown Merchants Association and the Alliance Church screaming "banana" at her. Chan's homophobic diatribes about Davies look like an attempt to draw support from these type of people.

I noticed in Chan's campaign profile that she's on the board of directors for the VanCity Credit Union. Given VanCity's record of electing NDP-sympathetic boards, I wouldn't be surprised if this spineless little traitor isn't shown the door at the next AGM - I know I won't be voting for her, either then or on Monday.

A couple of days ago one of Chan's volunteers, who was distributing leaflets door to door, began a "conversation" with me.

I couldn't help it but I just spurted out what I thought of Team Martin (well some of it )

The guy actually had the nerve of blaming Libby for the problems in the Downtown Eastside. I said to him 'oh right, it's the opposition which gets blamed not the government', eh?

To which he answered 'we {???] poured 131 (or whatever the exact amount was) million into it. I told him that's all the Liberals knew, throw money at problems.

In the end it just turned into a shouting match. (Not entirely my fault. )

I already voted for Libby. Just love the advance poll; I didn't have to wait at all. I'll do it again this way the next time around.

One law where Libby had a lot of input and did a lot of work apparently is the one that effectively curbed the noise at the train yards. I just live on top of the hill and I appreciate it every night. They used to blow their horns at any time of day or night up to almost a minute. I think they used it to tell the operator of switches to 'activiate' it.

One weird thing though is that since the election campaign started there has been more horn blowing in the middle of the night than used to be the case in recent months.

I am not paranoid.

No kidding

Hmmm... how long do you have to be a VanCity member to vote for the Board? I think I might have to go open an account....

Shirley is more than just a total lunatic, she's nasty, nasty, nasty. Her husband, Steve, is also a practising asshole just like Dave Haggard. After hearing Chan slander Libby yet again on CBC radio's Almanac programme last week, I phoned in but didn't get on, so I had to be satisfied with leaving a message. Chan blabbed on and on about Libby living in social housing - she never has. For a few years after Bruce died she lived at Adanac Co-op where market renters are critical to the balance. Not social housing!! Last year, she bought a house near VIctoria and 6th but that moron Shirley keeps using the social housing slur. In Libby's neighbourhood all the way from 1st to 8th and from Nanaimo to Victoria last week, I saw ONLY Libby signs. Now, there are a few Chan signs along Nanaimo, but not enough to indicate she's a threat. But, gee, ya never know, since some babblers (okay, one) have identified her as a 'dream candidate.' Some candidate, one lousy dream.

Jesus Christ... she's taking a swipe at Libby on child pornography.

So why the hell isn't this front-page news?

... after breaking anything they touch in the name of balancing a budget, and then when they throw money at the problem to fix it, they get a well-connected corporation to soak up the money instead.

Tonight I went to the Stonewall dance at the WISE hall and guess what lunatic joined the party? There was Shirley Chan swingin' her pearls around looking like she was doing us a big favour.

Libby was there, of course, and showed much more stamina dance-wise. She was also more interested in actually visiting with friends rather than making an appearance.

Jamie Lee Hamilton arrived in full splendour accompanied by, I'm pretty sure, Imtiaz Popat + boyfriend, and by somebody in an unfortunate outfit, a sort of florescent orange bikini, which frequently had to be adjusted because of its wedgie-inducing bottom half. There's nothing like watching somebody digging between their buttocks to disloge their clothing.

Did Chan look as though she were having a good time? Not really. It isn't fun when you have to make it look like it is.

On Friday, as I sat working at my computer, somebody shoved a Chan pamphlet under my door (so much for actually chatting with constituents) and I got up and opened my apartment door to a waft of waaaay too much cologne. I handed the bumpf back to the guy and said "Hey, bud, you might as well have this back because I'm not voting for her." Evidentally, he missed the giant Davies sign in my front window.
