SURREY/ CKNW (AM980) -- New Democrats have acclaimed Jagrup Brar as their candidate in the upcoming provincial by-election in Surrey-Panorama Ridge.

Brar currently heads up the "Self Employment and Entrepreneur Development Society" in Surrey, which helps people develop and launch small businesses.

The vote is necessary because Liberal MLA Gulzar Cheema is giving up the seat to run in the impending federal election.

Mary Polak is rumoured to be running for the BC Liberals. She is a Surrey School trustee who voted to ban children's books that portray same-sex parents. She is a right-wing social conservative freakshow who is into prayin' book bannin' and banjo playin'. Just the thing to drive moderate voters to the NDP. I hope she wins the nomination and will be puttin' in a good word for her with the man upstairs.

What would Asha's Mum think?
quote:
"There is an insinuation that if you hold the moral position that is opposed to homosexuality, that believes that it is sinful, that therefore you are bad, you are wrong."

Fortunately for Canadians the Supreme Court overruled Ms Polak.

Can you imagine Stephen Harper having control of Supreme Court appointments? I'd rather not, thank you.

Hopefully Surrey voters will also remember how much money Polak's never say die court cases cost the cash strapped Surrey School Board. Cancel esl classes but gotta appeal that nasty court decision, because we care about the kids of course.

yeah, what a fucking gong show that was.

I'm all for a Mary Polak candidacy, esp. when up against a moderate New Democrat(i think?). And hey, even if Polak wins, she's comparatively harmless as a backbencher. Anything to shift the balance on that goddamn school board.

What's with the gratuitous slam of banjos? Ever hear of Pete Seeger, that banjo-playin', left-leaning, rabble-rouser?
