On Saturday March 29, 2008 everyone is asked to turn off their lights, computers, everything, at 8pm local time, for one hour. Sydney, Australia did it last year and the city made a huge statement about global warming, as well they saved a whole bunch of energy. They're taking it global this year. It's a mass statement, from the First World, about global warming and energy consumption.

Yes, I'll say right off the bat that there are problems with this, namely the numbers of people in the world (First and otherwise) who don't live with electricity that can be turned on and off.

But the truth is, the majority of us First-Worlders are the worst consumers and wasters of energy. We have the biggest footprints, etc.

Here's the link, check it out for yourselves.

P.S. Warning for dial-up users, or folks like me with old and slow computers: the site is very graphics-heavy and takes a while to load. There's irony for ya.
