Even the moderators sound stupid actually discussing a glitch in how posts get garbled up and clocks suddenly reset.
As a newbie the whole board is one smogasbord of dysfunctionality and weird asocial interaction. The 'Todays Active Topics' going haywire can be look at objectively -- sort of from the Olympian heights. Or like the fundamentalists from Kansas who blame decadent androgyny in the U.S. for wars that kill their own kind when their own side starts to lose.
We all like to communicate and be reinforced for our nonstop mental gymnastics. If you're at all like me, and evidently many are, you think you deserve to be cuddled and burped for each regurgitation. Or, if you've got that RealityBites frame of mind, you expect the whole house to stop suddenly and react to your burp like to a man in a theatre screaming 'fire.'
I've worked toward objectives more than I've babbled, which is not the same. But I've heard tell that the lycee-educated French bring that babbling conversational rapport with colleagues right into the corporate or communitarian forums and, instead of fixing problems, talk everything to death. (Precisely like me here.)
Why do I conclude that many babble rabble rousers have glommed onto the TAT like it is the tit that feeds them? Because their collective reaction belies a lack of agency, displays the position of individual powerlessness, sounds like the wail of an nursing infant when the breast is withdrawn before thirst has been quenched. At that moment, all that matters is the tit. No other matter matters but that horn of plenty overhead that just stopped providing such manna.
As a newbie, I say "Get it fixed. I want to get something out of this thing and if it doesn't work, I'll go out and get one that does." That isn't necessarily mature. It smacks of corporate culture. But wait and see. It's also family talk. Adolescent (normal) dysfunctionality of the sort that drives parents nuts because it is just as infantile in refusing to accept responsibility, in its placing of the burden upon a parent figue, as the wailing infant we all were once upon a time.
By the way, I do not get this notion of newer posts scrolling on at the bottom. All the new ones I see come in at the top. And I bookmark in favorites discussions I want to follow. But apparently the majority of users hook on to that constant flow of dialogue so reliant on the clock. It is a feed.
