More than 7,300 Palestinians sit today in Israeli prisons. Of these, 530 are “administrative detainees” who may never be charged with a crime. Some 2,600 are awaiting trial, and 351 are younger than 18. Human rights organizations also allege that prisoners are regularly abused. Is this useful context for news that a majority of these prisoners have launched a hunger strike? Not according to Canada's national media.
