More than 300 teachers elected to represent their colleagues throughout the province met in Richmond over the weekend to determine the next step in their campaign against the Liberals' takeover of the B.C. College of Teachers.

"Gordon Campbell and Christy Clark have reduced the College of Teachers from a democratic, self-regulating professional body to a political tool of government," said BCTF President Neil Worboys. "Teachers feel very strongly that Bill 51 is an affront to their professional dignity and rights. It is a transparent manoeuvre to assert control over us, and to silence our critique of this government's disastrous education agenda. We came together this weekend to decide democratically how to proceed, and to affirm collectively that we will not be silenced."
