I personally never beleived the "road-map" would be a solution to lasting peace. The U.S. road map was dead anyways, this is just the expected stance the Likudnicks are taking.
Israel will not follow the U.S.-backed "road map" peace plan and could remain in much of the West Bank for an extended period after it withdraws from the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said in a newspaper interview published Wednesday.

Additionally, it appears that Israel has mastered the art of insincere sincerity, as they have denied entry to Egypt for several security troops being trained in preparation for the "pullout".

Apparently if they can't have an occupation then they don't want a real functioning government when they withdraw.

Hell, if peace were to "break out" in the area then their US sugar daddies might start reconsidering how much weapons and money they need to supply them.
