The troops will serve alongside the same US Marine division that Tonga served with in the Solomon Islands during World War Two.

That saddens me. Tonga is in the same position as Tuvalu, regarding the loss of their land from rising sea level in response to global climate change (Tonga's sea level is rising an average of 18 mm per year). Luckily for Tongans, they have more highland areas to resettle than their Tuvalun cousins. Bush is their real enemy, as he panders to the oil companies and refuses to consider reducing greenhouse gasses. And yet, because of historic ties to a different America, Tonga feels the need to potentially sacrifice 44 of their young men in an illegal occupation. I wonder what the Bushies offered for this symbolic gesture. Truckloads of coral sand? Windbreakers to protect against increased storm activity as El Nino events become more common?
