Five consecutive life terms plus forty years -- the CBC report.

That'll help. Not.

Anyone have a solid wager on how soon he will be released, and how?

Free Marwan Barghouti
Free, Free, Free, Marwan Barghouti
Free Marwan Barghouti
How many years in captivity
His shoes too small to fit his feet
His body abused but his mind is still free
Are you so blind that you cannot see

I say Free Marwan Barghouti
I'm begging you
Free Marwan Barghouti

He pleaded the causes of the PNC
Only one man in a large army
Are you so blind that you cannot see
Are you so deaf that you cannot hear his plea

Free Marwan Barghouti
I'm begging you Free Marwan Barghouti

How many years in captivity
Are you so blind that you cannot see
Are you so deaf that you cannot hear
Are you so dumb that you cannot speak

I say Free Marwan Barghouti
I'm begging you
Oh free Marwan Barghouti, free
Marwan Barghouti I'm begging you
begging you Please free Marwan Barghouti
free Marwan Barghouti
I'm telling you, you've got to free Marwan Barghouti

I've taken some liberties with the original

Marwan Barghouti: Radical pragmatist

quote:
"Marwan now is closer to the Marwan that existed prior to the Intifada," says Palestinian political analyst, Hani Al-Masri. "Before the Intifada he was a moderate and supported negotiations with Israel, including governments led by Likud and Shas.

He has moved away from the alliance with Hamas and Islamic Jihad, although he is still closer to the Islamists than any other Fatah leader."

As evidence Masri cites the "crucial role" Barghouti played in the June 2003 Palestinian cease- fire when, via a mobile phone from his prison cell, he negotiated the terms with Khaled Mishal, Hamas' political leader in exile.

The truce went up in the flames of a rogue Hamas bus bombing and Israeli assassinations in the West Bank. But the meaning was clear: Barghouti had thrown his weight behind Mahmoud Abbas's reformist government, the core policy of which was to end the armed Intifada and return to political negotiations.

Of course, with moderate Palestinian leaders imprisoned, the Israelis can try to claim that there is nobody with whom they can negotiate.
