Is it possible to get a bit of the background and history of what's going on over there without this turning into a huge bickering mess of a thread? I'm generally pretty out of touch with the Isreal-Palestine conflict, though I have a very cursory understanding.

Is there a concise, relatively unbiased resource I can look to? Can babblers give me a chronological summary of the conflict (starting with the assumption that I don't know anything at all)? Should I just give up and realize I'll never understand?
