U.S. to give Israel $2.22 Billion in Military Assistance

You have to scroll down the page a bit to get this little article. It is posted here in it's entirety.

quote:
The United States will ask Congress to give
Israel $2.22 billion in military assistance in
the fiscal year 2005, $60 million more than in
2004, the U.S. State Department said in a
statement on Monday.

The increase is in line with a 1990s agreement
which reduces economic assistance to Israel by
$120 million a year while adding $60 million a
year to the military component of the package,
the largest Washington gives to any country.

The statement, issued after talks in Israel last
Wednesday and Thursday between senior U.S. and
Israeli officials, said the Bush administration
was committed to enhancing Israel's security
and "maintaining Israel's qualitative edge over
any combination of adversaries".

It said the United States would continue to seek
funding for future U.S. participation in
selected joint research and development
projects with Israel.

U.S. economic support to Israel stood at $600
million in 2002 but under the agreement, which
dates back to the Clinton administration, it
will disappear by 2008.

Apart from the annual military and economic
assistance, the United States is also
guaranteeing international loans by Israel up
to an amount of $9 billion over three years.

The $9 billion is liable to deductions
equivalent to the Israeli government's spending
on settlements in the Palestinian territories
but the United States has given Israel
clearance to start borrowing before deciding
how much it will deduct.

What??? The F-16s went through? Pakistan had bought them years ago, but they were never delivered. After the money was tied up for years and years, I thought they had decided to send wheat or something. Do you have a link? I guess I haven't been following subcontinental news as thoroughly lately as I should.

Check that news a little more closely Mandos. You're sure that Pakistan has no F-16s in it's arsenal?

But you are right, no, the latest batch of F-16s didn't go through. Mushareff pushed for them in his latest talks with Bush, some months back, but Bush wouldn't deliver.

You seem to think that others think the Americans are consistent...

Hardly. They're about as consistent as Stalin and friends. They are experts in 'the lie for today'...

It does, but they are old. The latest batch has been the latest batch for a while. Unless there have been two more batches or something.

What I do know is that over the last 20 years Isreal has been the number 1 reciepient of US foreign aid, with the number 2 and 3 being Egypt and Pakistan. Both muslim countries. That little fact is always consistently ignored by the "America hates muslims" crowd.

Oh, yeah, for sure us babblers are a part of that crowd.

Howzabout this, droney? For 24 years, the US backed Muslim Indonesia while they happily slaughtered the (mostly Christian) population of East Timor.

See? You're right! The US isn't "anti-Muslim" after all! They'll back butchers, tyrants and mass murderers of ALL creeds and colours! It's equal-opportunity realpolitik!

Thread drift sucks.
