From Aljazeera.Net

quote:
A Palestinian family home that was rebuilt and dedicated to the memory of Rachel Corrie has been hit with a new demolition order.

(snip)

...a huge wave of outrage is expected to erupt after a demolition notice was slapped on the property of Bait Arabiya, dedicated to American-born Rachel's memory.

The property is home to Arabiya and Salim Shawamrah and their seven children who have watched Israelis demolish their house four times before.

Last Monday, Israel’s military administration in the Occupied Palestinian Territories issued a summons to destroy their home - built on privately-owned land - for a fifth time.

(snip)

The official reason for demolition is there was no building permit.

But when contacted by Aljazeera.net, the Israel Defence Force Civil Administration and Central Command refused to comment on why four applications for building permits were all turned down.

Stay of execution for Rachel Corrie home

quote:
... a wave of outraged campaigning has caused the Israeli occupation authorities to reconsider razing Arabiya and Salim Shawamrah’s property to the ground, a building dedicated to American-born Rachel's memory and home to seven children.

Bait Arabiya has been given another two weeks while an Israeli court decides if the Palestinian home in occupied Gaza should be destroyed for a fifth time.

Temporary period of grace

Former member of the Jerusalem Municipal Council Meir Margalit said the Israeli Court has frozen the demolition order to give the Israeli army time to explain why they must demolish this house.

--- cynical or experienced, here is what I get out of that comment ---

...Upon hearing the explanation, the Jerusalem Municipal Council will most certainly approve the IDF's demolition request. The demolition will then take place conveniently after all the hub-bub in the papers has a chance to die down somewhat...
