RAMALLAH, West Bank--Mahmoud Abbas, the appointed prime minister of the Palestinian Authority considered by the United States and Israel as crucial partner for creating a new era of peace in the Middle East, submitted his resignation today after an embattled four-month tenure.

It is a shame, but: almost no popular support; no co-operation from Sharon; and a distracted government in Washington that has never looked all that serious about bringing Sharon to heel. Result: collapse of the road map, this version of it, anyway.

The road map was D.O.A. Until there is a process requiring the both sides take concrete steps to end the conflict, and not just that the Palestinians cease violence, nothing will be accomplished. As long Israel is coddled by the U.S., it has no incentive to do anything.

According to this:
"Jerusalem (jnewswire.com) - A public survey conducted by the Office of Palestinian Information last week shows a solid majority of Palestinian Arabs support terrorist attacks against Israeli Jews.

Nearly all of those polled said they absolutely oppose the detention of terrorists belonging to groups such as Hamas and the Palestine Islamic Jihad by PA forces."

Could this be the reason there is no peace?

Given the level of frustration experienced on both sides is it any wonder they believe in doing the same thing that gets the same lousy results even though they expect it to accomplish something different this time around?

Not at all.

The reason there is no peace is due to extremists such as yourself. Mishei gets all upset if we speak of the state of Israel and its actions as all of Israel. I doubt he would have any problem with such nonsense propaganda being directed at all Palestinians.

A reputable poll, not that long ago and re-posted here, showed a majority of Israelis and Palestinians wanted peace.

However, if a majority of Palestinians did want to see Israel desytroyed. who could blame them? Israel is a curse to the Palestinians.

Israel murders their children, destroys thier homes, destroys their orchards, steals their land, steals their water and imprisons every one of them in an open, dirty, dusty concentration camp without adequate food or water slowly being fenced in.

Israelsi walk on to Palestinian land with guns and just seize it. The Israeli army then protects these "settlers" while the state pours money on them.

The really amazing part is that so many still want peace with Israel.

Israel is a racist state and those who apologize and defend the racist state are no less racist.

Until I see the actual poll, I won't be taking anything that 'Jerusalem Newswire' has to say at face value. They are largely fed and fomented by right-wing Christian Zionists who have a hate-on for Palestinians. Their 'balance' seems to include not a single report from a Palestinian standpoint, not a single link to a website detailing the Palestinian positions. Mostly, it's just propaganda of the kind you posted in the 'frontpagemag' link.

It's okay for Israelis to think that the entire territory is rightfully theirs, and apply ethnic cleansing and military occupation to acheive that, but it's an afront to decency that Palestinians think the same thing....

You are good for a laugh, I must admit.

Perhaps. However, I think the main reason right now can be described in one word: Arafat.
