"A structure built on human callousness will inevitably collapse on itself."

Column by Avraham Burg, a current member of the Knesset:

quote:
We could kill a thousand ringleaders and engineers a day and nothing will be solved, because the leaders come up from below — from the wells of hatred and anger, from the "infrastructures" of injustice and moral corruption.

For some reason, this song's been running through my head:

"Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
And another
Inferior
Is finally
And permanently
Discredited
And abandoned -
Everywhere is war -
Me say war.

That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes -
Me say war.

That until the basic human rights
Are equally guaranteed to all,
Without regard to race -
Dis a war.

That until that day
The dream of lasting peace,
World citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
But never attained -
Now everywhere is war - war..."

Realities of Israeli oppression rarely aired in North America
quote:
The Fort McMurray Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) said the Israeli troops knew the vehicle had been given clearance to enter Ramallah, but launched their grenade through its windshield anyway.

"The 40-mm grenade probably went right into the doctor's chest and blew up ... three EMTs had 80% burns over their bodies," he told a Calgary audience last spring.

The more fortunate paramedics are beaten to a pulp by the soldiers, used as human shields by them, kidnapped or delayed for hours from reaching patients, Dombrowski reported.

Palestinians on the streets during curfew, even those seeking medicine or food were shot out of hand, he added.

It's all part of Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine, where kids throwing stones at tanks are gunned down, schools are destroyed, clinics ransacked, homes plundered, tank shells lobbed into marketplaces and missiles hurled into crowds.

Of course, horrors such as this, and the other events you've mentioned, are called "quiet" by our media.

What possible reason ... ?

(And it's true: I haven't seen that story reported in the Globe.)

That is a horrifying story. I wonder if the Israeli soldier(s) who murdered her will have to answer for it? Actually, I already know the answer to that question which makes this all the more brutal.

If you check zmag, you will find an article about the media and propaganda written by P Sainath. It pretty well fits in with this topic.

That is a horrifying story.

Horrifying, yet seemingly all-too-routine. The recent book, "Remembering Jenin," lists many accounts of similar atrocities by the IOF. But then again, there was no massacre at Jenin, right?

Another modern day Jeremiah speaks out:

"Without cutting ourselves off from the
Palestinians, we are destroying the moral basis
of the State of Israel. Continuing to oppress
them won't bring quiet but hundreds of years of
terror instead. But it will be okay."

"There is something awful about the moral and
political paralysis that grips Israeli society.
The clear signs that things are going to get
very bad should have aroused energetic counter
responses; but the forces that were supposed to
have led the struggle for reform are in a coma.
An astounding expression of this is the fact
that months after their election failure, the
Labor party and Meretz have not managed to
elect a new leadership."
