or perhaps the stupidest one that ever crossed this internet threshold. For the sake of argument - just read to the end before you form an opinion, OK? - I propose that two distinctive threads be started, one reserved for female babblers' participation only, the other one for men only.

I am advancing this notion as an opportunity to learn something important and to practice respect for boundaries. I suspect that participants might respond differently if they knew that for that thread only, there would be no challenge or debate from the "opposite" sex.

Each thread should address the same topic; say - "Words used to describe sexual interactions". We could read each other's threads of course but responses and replies would only be posted by the appropriate gender. There may be an occasional trollish incursion, which the moderator(s) would deal with, firmly.

After a determined amount of time, perhaps after 12 days, a third thread would be started - everyone could post - for the purpose of discussing and asking questions about what was written in the two gender-specific threads.

Now that I re-reading my suggestion, it appears goofy and adolescent. But worth trying?

Edited to add - the 'scathingly brilliant idea' is a quote from the original "Parent Trap" movie from 1961. I use it with tongue in cheek, because the idea in question is dreamed up by a pre-adolescent girl.

Is this the right forum to discuss my silly notion? Should I have started this thread in Rabble Reactions?

I think it's an interesting idea, deBeauxOs. I've been toying with a similar thought -- we could try a topic with two threads running by sex, or we could also do it by commitment: eg, this is the pro-porn thread, and this is the anti-porn thread, although maybe that division is a little primitive.

Yes, I think it's interesting too. But how to divide it up? Sex is one way, but it could be and has been argued that porn, for example, is not viewed the same way by hetero and homo people. As skdadl says, by commitment might be too rigid.

Let's think more on this. . .

skdadl and fernhill, thanks for your thoughtful responses. It would surprise me though, if there is support for this idea.

I haven't posted for a while because I needed a break after a few threads in the fem forum, and I still need a break.
I actually tried to cancel my password so I wouldn't be tempted to post and would be forced to stay away from babble , for my own good. Cancelling your password seems to be beyond my capabilities and or knowledge of the inner workings of rabble.ca because I am still logged in.
The thought of being able to discuss issues without stupid one liners and gang type behaviour is very attractive and I would certainly find it a relief to be able to actually make some progress in a discussion.

Interesting idea. It also reminds me of a book that came out a while ago--the author had the chutzpah, and sense of humour, to call it:

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
