Police foil al-Qaida attack on Commons

quote:
LONDON -- Police believe they have foiled a nerve gas attack by the al-Qaida terrorist network on the British Parliament.

The plot to attack the House of Commons was prepared last year but was discovered in coded emails on computers seized from terrorist suspects in Britain and Pakistan, The Sunday Times reported.

Ouch. The pace is being stepped up, and this may well invite a disproportionate British response in Iraq, which may or may not achieve the results (we may assume that SOME Al Qaeda cells are in Iraq, but that being so decentralized it is not clear where the nucleus would be) so desired, which would be to remove the threat involved.

Remarkable that this comes out at exactly the same time the pressure is heating up on the police over the execution of Jean Charles de Menezes.

The plot is acknowledged to have happened last year. Nothing in the article says when, exactly, the police foiled the plot, but I can't help but think the timing is mighty convenient.

There's not enough evidence revealed to say if this ever existed outside of the minds of a few intelligence officers, or spin-doctors.
After all, this post could be a coded message to the People's Revolutionary Front of Free Denmark to go out and seize Hans Island, couldn't it?
That's the problem with 'coded e-mails' - eye of the beholder and so-on.

Here is the original Sunday Times report.

What can one say? This isn't exactly fresh, although it isn't exactly unbelievable either.

One side probably would attack if it could, and the other side is spinning like crazy because a lot of people want Sir Ian's head right now.

I mean, it's all believable. *frazzle*
