Amnesty International Report Comes Out Amid More Deaths

The killing came as the London-based human rights group Amnesty International issued a new report saying that more than 250 Palestinian children and 72 Israeli children had been killed in the two-year Palestinian uprising against Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. An additional 7,000 Palestinian and "several hundred" Israeli children have been wounded in the fighting.

Speaking of the Israel Defense Forces, the report said, "Most Palestinian children have been killed by the IDF's excessive and disproportionate use of lethal force against demonstrators and stone throwers, and their reckless shooting, shelling and aerial bombardments of residential areas."

It said 70 percent of the dead Israeli children had been killed in suicide bombings and cited the "consistent failure" of the Palestinian Authority to take steps to arrest those responsible for killing Israeli children and other civilians. Palestinian officials said the violence Monday in Nablus, a city of about 115,000 people 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Jerusalem that has been under curfew for more than 100 days, came in two spurts of rock-throwing clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli tanks. Details of the incidents were sketchy.
