Humiliation for Powell at earth summit

quote:
The US secretary of state, Colin Powell was booed, heckled and jeered as he tried to defend America's environmental record on the closing day of the world summit in Johannesburg today.
Delegates from non-governmental groups in the audience repeatedly interrupted his speech, chanting: "Shame on Bush".

quote:
The Bush administration has faced renewed criticism at the summit because of its resistance to binding targets to increase the use of renewable energy. President George Bush himself refused to attend the event.

Note to self: don't work for Dubya when he gets his flackies to take the heat for his policies.

I still have to feel sorry for Powell, although if he had true integrity, he'd resign rather than take orders from Bush the village idiot.

Why should you feel sorry for a war mongering, environment destroying, expansionist NON-ELECTED official getting booed?

If he can't handle it he shouldn't be in that job.

Then again, neither should Bush.

Have a look at the text of his speech, he had me in stitches (with lines like the US is at the forefront of the battle against climate change and pollution!!).

It was no wonder he got heckled, you could hear the gasps of astonishment at the sheer cheek of it!!
