I have a question.

What are we all doing here?

Are we accomplishing anything?

Do our words contribute to making the world a better place?

I would like to believe, we do.

However, when discussions go on and on about Bush's IQ and whether he is a moron or only an idiot, it reminds me of the old one: "How many angels can dance on the tip of a pin?"

Or the "Life of Brian" and the "Liberation Front of Judea".

Lets face it people, our roof is on fire over our head. This may escalate into the Thirld World War with the potential of destroying much of humanity.

What is it that we can do?

First, give hope, encouragement, intellectual ammunition to those who are on the right side.

Second, try to convince those who are honests, decent people but have fallen prey to propaganda, emotional manipulation, lack of facts in the mainstream media.

Are we doing it?

I hope we do.

But sometime, I get very discouraged as the following poem illustrates.

I hope it is not true.

Why am I trying to say
what so many already said
so much better,
so many times?
Our world is doomed,
and we, who can see it,
are not heard -
we must be mute…
…or the others all deaf.

A truth,
a conviction
needs decades of searching,
thinking, analyzing
to form, crystallize
into knowledge.
You can’t share it
with anyone
who has not traveled
the same path…
…and yet, we try.

Maybe we write
for each other,
to help us feel
we’re not alone,
there are others, our kind,
almost another species
dispersed on the planet…
…as if we were expelled
from our homeland,
for some horrible crime.

We sing ballads,
spin yarns,
write poems, plays, essays,
from soap boxes
or thunder from pulpits,
trying to be heard,
to set their souls on fire…
…all we ever do is:
preach to the choir.

This is more of a 'rabble reactions' sort of topic. I'm moving it accordingly.
