Cara Sposa and I were listening to the CBC news this aft' - they must have been talking about inflation or something -when the presenter said "Looney," meaning our dollar, which triggered a brief discussion at home, the upshot being thuswise:

'Let's drop all pretense and just name our national currency the "Looney." It's such a madcap currency anyway.

'So what will we call "cents?"

'How about "noncents?" '

Thus ends our annual rumination over political economy.

Which leaves the question of the two dollar coin.
I call it a "Doubloon."

Are there any other swell monetary appellations out there?

A friend of mine calls the twonie a "bearly" - because there's a bear on it, and it's "bearly" worth two bucks.

A guy I work with calls a twonie a "moonie" because it is a picture of the queen with a bear behind

See, repetitive work does warp the mind

It has a polar bear on one side, I guess I should have typed the queen on the coin with a "bare" behind (like in mooning someone.) Really, if you read the post aloud, it makes a little more sense. Insomnia today is going to make it a long Friday tomorrow. My alarm will ring in just over six hours. (sigh) And so, off to bed I go.
